Harvard Invitational

Fri—Mon, February 14th—17th (2/14—2/17)

The fourth and final national circuit tournament of our season will be the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Massachusetts (Boston).

This is a great opportunity for students who have gained extensive experience on the team and who are interested in pursuing rigorous national circuit competition. Harvard is one of the single most prestigious and rigorous national circuit tournaments of the year. It offers large entry fields with high competitive rigor in mostly progressive and mixed styles, and mostly East Coast draw in entry and judging pools (Berkeley, a different rigorous tournament, is the same weekend but tends to pull more West Coast teams). However, its size also means that it offers JV divisions for students who are in the second year of debate.
It is a UKTOC bid tournament for both Speech and Debate events.

Please note that registration fees and costs are higher for national circuit competitions, and may include higher registration fees, multi-night hotel rooms, rental cars, and occasionally, hired judging fees. The school will pay for $250 of the total cost of the tournament, with additional costs billed to families in proportion to their Tuition Assistance. See Student Billing for more information.

Specific event information, schedule, and the tournament invitation are available via the Tabroom.com link:

Applications for Registration are due no later than Friday, 12/20 at 5:00pm.

Only students with previous competitive history on the team are eligible for consideration, and entries will be limited. However, anyone who is interested is encouraged to apply!

Schedule Considerations

  • If accepted, students will miss either some or all classes on Friday, 2/14 (A, B, C, and D classes) depending on final travel arrangements. However, the tournament does not start until Saturday, 2/15.

  • No school will be missed on Monday, 2/17 as it is Presidents’ Day (no school).

  • This tournament conflicts with the District Congress tournament in ABQ on 2/15. Congress students are most likely best served by prioritizing the District tournament. However, little-to-no school is anticipated to be missed that tournament!

  • Model UN has a tournament to Boston the weekend before this one.
