University of Houston Cougar Classic Results

The first national circuit tournament of year was the University of Houston Cougar Classic the weekend of 10/28-10/30 in Houston, Texas.

Resident policy debate enthusiasts Darin and Leo worked hard in preparation for the weekend, and were one round shy of breaking into elimination rounds! Several judges approached us between rounds to congratulate Darin and Leo for their collaboration, partnership, and general debate skills. They were noted as strong competitors, and they continue to make concerted efforts to grow in their argumentation and in-round strategy.

This dynamic duo was exceptional in their work ethic, growth mindset, willingness to do rebuttal re-do after rebuttal re-do, and courteous engagement with other competitors, judges, and community members. We enjoyed flowing and watching out-rounds, becoming acquainted with the campus cougar statues, eating delicious Turkish and Mediterranean food, and, as always, preparing arguments for the next upcoming tournament.

Next up, we’ll head to New Orleans, LA for Isidore Newman’s Invitational in December!
