New Mexico State Speech & Debate Championship

*Thurs (Debate only) –Sat, February 27th – March 1st (2/28-3/1)

The culmination of our local competitive season ends with the New Mexico State Speech & Debate Championship hosted at the La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Students compete in their main Speech and/or Debate events in a traditional two-day tournament (State Congress is held during a different weekend). This means competitors will have preliminary rounds before breaking to additional elimination rounds featuring the top-performing students. The top-placing students in elimination rounds will receive awards. Unlike other tournaments, this championship will also recognize the top speaker in each debate event and a few special year-end awards (you can read about the State Award Descriptions here).
***Debate will have 2 prelims held ONLINE on Thurs after school.

This is a great final opportunity for students to compete locally this year and round out their season on the New Mexico circuit!

Specific event information, schedule, and the tournament invitation are available via the Tabroom.com link:

nmstate.tabroom.com

Registration is due no later than Wednesday, 2/5 at 4:00pm.

NOTE: YOU MUST have competed at least once already (in any event) this season in order to compete at this tournament.

If this is a problem for you, reach out to Ms. Matton to explain your situation and plan to compete in at least one Springboard Scrimmage prior to the tournament.

Schedule Considerations

  • Students will not have to miss any classes to attend State

  • DEBATERS should plan for 2 virtual prelims on Thurs after school

  • Tournament conflicts with the District Baskbetall Championship

  • Tournament falls during a weekend of the Musical
